Disaster Risk Management

Four thematic areas

1: Disaster Preparedness

Preparedness for Effective Response (PER); is the cyclical approach that has empowered TRCS to become more creative and innovative in the disaster risk management efforts, and contribute to the coordination of national and global response system. TRCS has increased its disaster preparedness stocks, reviewed disaster risk management policy and strategy 2020-2025, equipped the IT unit (in year 2020, TRCS equipped more than 25 Red Cross regional branches with mobile phones, prepaid sim cards, internet router, generators) for time information sharing during preparedness and response actions, and established 24/7 established Emergency Operation Center for information gathering and issuing early warning messages to the branches/volunteers.

Community based DRR activities in Kyela dsitrict: Volunteers and villages placed Sand bags along River Songwe bank to reduce speed water, protect river banks to reduce floods at Katumbasongwe ward.

In Kyela district; TRCS has established community early warning system in 18 villages which are frequent affected by floods. The TRCS engaged the communities in the EA system process through community meeting, training of volunteers and community leaders, identification of flood-prone areas and at last instalment of early warning system.
