The Tanzania Red Cross Society (TRCS) has continued its humanitarian response efforts by providing relief assistance to families affected by floods in Mbarali District, Mbeya Region, following heavy rains that disrupted lives and livelihoods.
The support was handed over through the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Bahati Ndingo, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure affected communities receive urgent assistance during this difficult period.
Speaking during the handover event, TRCS Disaster Response Manager, Mr. Samwel Katamba, conveyed greetings from the organization’s leadership and reaffirmed TRCS’s commitment to communities affected by disasters.
He noted that the will continue working closely with the Government and other partners to ensure timely humanitarian assistance reaches vulnerable families and helps communities recover from the effects of flooding.
The relief items distributed included 120 mattresses, 100 jerry cans, 120 blankets, and 100 hygiene kits specifically for women to help address urgent household needs.
Mbarali District Commissioner, Brigadier General Maulid Hassan Surumbu, acknowledged the support and explained that he had earlier received additional relief supplies on behalf of the Mbeya Regional Commissioner, Hon. Beno Malisa, which were safely stored before being distributed to other affected districts across the region.
He commended the Tanzania Red Cross Society and its partners for their continued collaboration in supporting communities affected by floods.
Hon. Bahati Ndingo also expressed appreciation to TRCS for the timely assistance, noting that the support will help ease the challenges faced by flood victims, particularly in accessing essential household items, clean water, and hygiene supplies.
He further encouraged other stakeholders to continue supporting affected communities to help restore normal life as quickly as possible.
